LUXWT Prime Review

By Haley Plotkin @readysetjetset

I had the pleasure of spending three nights at the lovely Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Kona-Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The resort features 243 guest rooms and suites and seven swimming pools, my favorite being the adult-only infinity pool with a swim up bar. There is also a small, protected area for swimming on the beach, but in general, most of the beach area is too rocky and rough for swimming. Instead, one can enjoy private beach cabanas for rental or the many chairs and hammocks across the sand to soak in the sun and scenery.

One of the major highlights of my stay was playing the Jack Nicklaus signature golf course at the resort. The course struck a nice balance between fun and difficult, with most of the fairways carved out of the old lava fields in the area. It is a beautiful and challenging course, though I found the greens to be decently accessible and enjoyed that most bunkers were on the left (being a Jack Nicklaus designed course) as someone who tends to slice. Instead of water and bunkers, the toughest feature of the course was the lava hazards that one can easily find themselves hitting into.

I was also hosted for two lovely dinners at The Beach Tree and Ulu restaurants on resort property. At the Beach Tree, I participated in their wonderful Tuscan night featuring uku fish while enjoying the view of an amazing sunset on the beach. At Ulu, I tried the sushi and Ono fish, calamari, and a cool cocktail called the Blushing Geisha. Both dining experiences were wonderful, with great outdoor views especially at sunset. It was a very pleasant and relaxing dining experience.

And last but definitely not least, there was the room. The best part of the room was the great balcony with a view of the ocean and Beach Tree pool. The room also had great accessibility to all pools, the lobby, and the golf course. While the resort offered golf carts to take you anywhere you needed to go, I found everything to only be a short walk away. Overall, I had an amazing stay at the resort, and I highly recommend you check it out yourself if you find yourself vacationing on the Big Island.

About the Resort

Upon arrival at Kona International Airport you will be greeted by a Four Seasons Resort Hualalai representative who will assist you with your luggage and direct you to your prearranged transportation to the resort.

Set on the North Kona Coast of Hawaii Island, Four Seasons Resort Hualālai at Historic Ka‘ūpūlehu boasts a dramatic mix of white-sand beaches, dazzling oceanfront and black-lava landscapes. Enjoy championship golf, island-fresh dining, and a genuine aloha spirit during your stay.

Accommodations- Housed in intimate two-storey bungalows, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai';s 243 expansive guest rooms and suites exude a nostalgic sense of Hawaii’s golden age. An extensive collection of native Hawaiian art can be seen throughout, along with nature-inspired décor and fantastic outdoor living areas.

Choose from three restaurants and two ocean-side lounges at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, with creative menus that reflect the changing of the seasons and the bounty of Hawaii’s farms and coasts. Enjoy tempting variety throughout the week, from Tuscan cucina rustica and beachfront barbecues to Asian-Pacific cuisine and Polynesian pupus (appetizers).

A legendary spirit lives in the land of Hualalai; powerful and inspiring. The island kupuna (elders) call it ‘uhane (spirit). At the Hualalai Spa, we’ve created a uniquely Hawaiian experience that embraces ‘uhane to refresh, restore and renew your sense of health and well-being.

The 28,000-square-foot (2,600-square-metre) Hualalai Spa integrates tropical gardens with cool interior spaces and feels distinctly Hawaiian. Enjoy relaxing by a quiet stream in the open-air Waiea (Water of Life) garden. Savour the lap pool, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms and cold plunges, all set amidst lush greenery. Your choice of massage and body treatments may be enjoyed outdoors in our exotic new hales, secluded for privacy.

At Hualalai Spa, we honour the healing traditions of Hawai‘i through a full complement of salon services, skin care, body treatments and massage therapies.

This rectangular “pool” is carved out of the oceanfront lava rock and features a natural breakwater. The result is an ocean pool, measuring 656 feet (200 metres) in length and ranging from zero to five feet (zero to 1.5 metres) in depth. Protected from the waves and home to sea life including honu (turtle), this is a great way to experience the ocean with the feel of a pool.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, set on the picturesque Kona-Kohala coast of Hawai'i Island, is a magnificent work of destination art. Built into its natural surroundings, the resort combines history, culture, pure pampering and true aloha to all who come its way. The resort features 243 magnificent rooms and suites, championship golf, world-class spa and fitness, tennis, on-site ocean activities, retail boutiques, seven pools, cultural experiences and award-winning dining. All the while, the contrast of ancient black lava rock with towering coconut palms, white sand beaches and azure seas creates opportunities for lasting memories.
